Artist Workshop: Architecture is Frozen Music - Laure Catugier

In conjunction with the exhibition Architecture is Frozen Music, by Laure Catugier currently on show in the Liebling Haus Project Room, we are holding an artist workshop. Catugier will be discussing her installation and guiding a city tour in which she will talk about her methodology and demonstrate how she uses photography to work with architectural elements. In her work, Catugier sets her gaze on the geometric language of modernism. Using photography, video, and performance, she questions both the perception of space and its representation, deconstructing and reconstructing it with the images and sounds she gathers in cities she visits around the world. As part of an ongoing research on the global standardization of construction, Catugier examines the functionality of modernist architecture, urban spaces and the life they contain.

The exhibition includes works she created in the Middle Eastern cities of Tel Aviv, Alexandria and Tehran, all places that embody similar modernistic notions of architecture and urbanism. The collage of images and voices reverberates the fabric of historical regional connections that are evoked in Catugier’s mental map.

The event will be held in English.
