פרטי האירוע

In the fourth exhibition that takes place in the project room, the artist Daniel Al-Hassid addresses the question "What is the White City?" Through the performance "The Good Stones", a series of stop-motion animated videos that explore the urban experience and memory.

The animated films focus on the history and myth of Alhasid's hometown, Tel Aviv, also known as the "White City". They take a critical look at the official narrative that has formed around the city and seek to uncover traces of covert histories. At the same time Al-Hasid presents her version of the story of the White City.

The city of Al-Hasid lies in the space between myth and personal memories, between the universal metaphor and the concrete experience. Through these cracks she calls on the characters and fringe stories to return to the historic urban space.

In the film "Wave Frother" different voices mingle with the artist's voice, whispering names of forgotten Palestinian villages. In the film "What Was Was" the artist talks to her grandmother, who explains why she cut her figure out of photographs. In the third film, "Elijah," Al-Hasid's great-grandfather appears as the angel of history walking in the city he once knew. In each film, stones appear as symbols of memory that hold the illusion of the existence of a "true" story that they never reveal. In her works, Al-Hasid seeks to delve into daily practices of repression and creation of memory.

The animated films together constitute an installation that creates a dismantled landscape that cannot be captured in its entirety. Each film tells a different story. In this way the installation remains true to the experience of the city it strives to represent.
